A tense standoff erupted on Kibwezi Road at Enzou junction today after residents blocked the busy highway over a heated burial dispute involving relatives of Kitui South MP, Dr. Rachael Kaki Nyamai.
At the center of the chaos is Mrs. Annah Mumo, headmistress of Kyatune Special School and wife to Julius Mumo, who is closely tied to the MP’s family. The body, which was scheduled to be buried today, has become the subject of a bitter row that has now spilled into the public, pitting the community against the powerful political family.
Angry locals accused leaders of exploiting their influence to frustrate the burial arrangements, leaving the family in anguish and the community deeply unsettled. They insisted that the matter must be resolved fairly without favoritism or intimidation.
The blockade paralyzed transport along the busy route for several hours, forcing motorists and traders to remain stranded. Security officers were deployed to quell the growing tension, even as calls mounted for urgent dialogue to ensure the burial proceeds in peace and justice prevails.
