The Kitui County Government, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, has reaffirmed its commitment to fully automating revenue collection as part of efforts to strengthen financial governance and boost Own Source Revenue (OSR).

According to the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance, Economic Planning, and Revenue Management, Hon. Peter Mwikya Kilonzo, the automation drive is aimed at achieving the county’s 2025/2026 OSR target of Kshs. 1.05 billion. This follows last year’s shortfall, where the county collected Kshs. 895 million against a projection of Kshs. 988 million.

Appearing before the Finance Committee chaired by Tseikuru MCA Hon. Daniel Kimanzi Muange, Hon. Kilonzo revealed that 72 revenue streams have already been automated and integrated. The Committee commended the ministry’s progress, noting that OSR has grown steadily from Kshs. 360 million to over Kshs. 800 million in recent years.

Hon. Kilonzo urged members of the County Assembly to help sensitize the public on the importance of paying taxes, emphasizing that full cooperation from all stakeholders will be key to meeting the ambitious revenue targets. He was accompanied by CPA John Makau, the Chief Officer for Revenue Management and Accounting, and Mr. John Muema, the Assistant Director of Revenue.
